Georgia On My Mind

Georgia you have wowed me!

A strategic east - west trading post on the Silk Road, the oldest wine producing region in the world (8000 years), home to the Caucasus mountain range and Mount Elbrus at 18520 feet (equivalent to Everest base camp), historically religiously tolerant of all faiths, a garden of Eden for fruits, nuts and dairy products,  birthplace of Stalin, considered to be the best techno nightclub scene in the world, experts in the deeply spiritual polyphonic singing and unequivocally the most dangerous drivers I’ve ever seen.

We ate divine fresh produce, succulent meat and river fish, drank Georgian Saperavi wine 🍷 on Tblisi rooftops, enjoyed Georgian saunas and hammams, wild swimming, the fertile and forested wine region, driving along the military road to Russia (not for those of a nervous disposition), quad biking high in the Caucasus mountains, visiting the outstanding museum in  Stalin’s birthplace, marveling at impossibly located mountain fortresses and managing to stay alive on the craziest roads ever.

If you want to live, really live, consider a trip to Georgia. It is ancient, modern, gentle, raw, culturally proud, joyful, musical and slightly bonkers all in one small country. And if like me, you like active holidays and healthy food choices, this is for you! I hope you give it a try and British Airways now flies direct from Heathrow.
